Parliament Summons Robin Lowe On K30 Billion Fertilizer Scam

Parliament has summoned the minister of agriculture and those allegedly involved in the K30-billion fertilizer scam.

Reports indicate that the Malawi government paid K750 million to a meat company for the procurement of fertilizer under the Affordable Input Program-AIP.

The company was registered in United Kingdom as a slaughterhouse, with its business focusing on wholesale of meat, dairy products as well as fruit and juices.

However, the Anti-Corruption Bureau-ACB is revealing it did not conduct the vetting processes as it was bypassed.

The ministry of agriculture has so far confirmed that it gave an advance payment of 750 million kwacha to a United Kingdom based Barkaat Foods Limited as advance payment for fertilizer procurement.

The issue has attracted public criticism with some questioning how procurement processes were bypassed.

Speaking to Capital FM Shadreck Namalomba Chairperson for the Parliamentary Committee on Public Accounts, stresses that those involved should face the law.
