President Dr Lazarus Chakwera has officially launched the 2022/23 National Forestry Season with a call for a switch to alternative sources of energy that do not rely on charcoal.
According to Dr Chakwera, human invasion and deforestation have for the past years derailed Malawi’s aspirations of replenishing forest cover hence the need for multiple actions towards reversing the challenge.
He was speaking at Chipalamawamba Primary School Ground in Mangochi where activities marking the launch of the national forestry season took place.
About 50 million trees are marked for planting in the 2022/23 National Forestry Season.
