Youth and Society (YAS), a human rights watchdog, has requested the Office of the Ombudsman to investigate a K128 billion contract awarded to QLV DigitalFx (Malawi) Limited
This contract involves supplying fuel to the National Oil Company of Malawi (Nocma) and allegedly bypassed procurement laws.
In a letter dated September 6, 2024, which Nation Online has seen ,YAS executive director Charles Kajoloweka raised concerns about transparency, accountability, and the proper use of public funds and urged an investigation into the contract’s legality.
Ombudsman Grace Malera confirmed receiving the complaint and assured that it would be reviewed.
She said: “The complaint will go through our screening processes to determine its admissibility and whether it involves issues of maladministration. If so, an investigation will be launched.”
The contract involves procuring 250,000 metric tons of fuel (125,000 metric tons of diesel and 125,000 metric tons of gasoline) for Nocma. Notably, the supplier is to be paid 50 percent of the contract amount upfront through a local forex bureau
