Deputy Inspector General of Police, Casper Chalera, dies

The Malawi Police Service is mourning the loss of Deputy Inspector General of Police, Casper Chalera, who passed away last night at Kamuzu Central Hospital in Lilongwe. The sad news was confirmed by police spokesperson Peter Kalaya early this morning.

According to Kalaya, Chalera’s death has come as a shock to the entire law enforcement community. He stated that the Deputy Inspector General had been receiving treatment at Kamuzu Central Hospital but succumbed to an undisclosed illness late last night.

Chalera, who has served in various senior capacities within the police force, was known for his dedication to maintaining law and order across the country. His leadership within the Malawi Police Service had been instrumental in overseeing major security operations and ensuring the safety of Malawians.

The police spokesperson added that more details regarding his funeral arrangements will be shared with the public in due course. As the nation mourns this great loss, colleagues and senior officials have expressed their condolences to his family, friends, and fellow officers.

Chalera leaves behind a legacy of service, discipline, and a deep commitment to the nation’s security. His absence will be deeply felt by the Malawi Police Service and the country as a whole.
