If you truly grasp how depleted and vulnerable the natural resources on Mulanje Mountain have become, you would understand that Bon Kalindo, often dismissed as a mere comedian, had a valid point when he took on those foreigners claiming to restore what was once a mighty mountain. Sadly, we laughed him off as Winiko, his stage persona, and stood with the system that opposed him.
Breaking News: “Please Sue” – Lawyer Alexious Kamangila responds to Justice Kenani Manda’s K250 million demand
Travel along the Makwasa Road, and you’ll see that the beauty of Thyolo fades just beyond where we stop to take our pictures. Beyond that, a different story unfolds—our fellow Malawians struggling to make a living from the steep mountainside, while the fertile land was long sold off by Kamuzu Banda to his associates from that English palace. It was here that Vincent Wandale took a stand, demanding justice for land rights. But once again, we sided with the system, dismissing Wandale as crazy, reducing his fight to a spectacle rather than listening to his cause.
And now, today, a new voice has risen. Lawyer Kamangila has dared to challenge the deep-rooted powers within our judicial system, a system that for too long has poisoned the waters of justice. We pray that he will not be left to stand alone in the ring, that when the music stops, Kamangila will not be the only one left without a chair. We deserted Kalindo when he fought for the justice of Mulanje Mountain. We abandoned Wandale when all he sought was land justice for the people of Mulanje and Thyolo. Now, we must ask ourselves: will we leave Kamangila to face the system alone, even as he fights for fairness within the very structure that is supposed to deliver justice?

Throughout our history, we have had brave individuals like Kamangila. Every time, we applauded from a distance, waiting to see what might fall from the trees they shook. But the real question remains—will we continue to stand on the sidelines, or will we finally join the fight for a just and fair Malawi? The time to choose is now.
