Speaking ahead of the team’s departure for Hurghada, Egypt, where the tournament will take place, Haiya expressed confidence in the squad’s abilities and encouraged the players to aim for the top prize.
“Bringing the trophy home would be a monumental achievement for Malawi, and we believe in the talent and dedication of our team. They have our full support,” Haiya said.
The team, led by head coach Willy Kumilambe, departed today for the tournament, which is scheduled to kick off this Saturday. Coach Kumilambe assured fans that the team is well-prepared to compete on the continental stage.
“We are ready to deliver at the tournament. The players are focused, and we’ve had good preparations leading up to this moment,” Kumilambe told Capital FM this morning.
Malawi has been placed in a challenging Group B, where they will face beach soccer giants Senegal, alongside Mozambique and Mauritania. Despite the tough competition, hopes remain high that the team will rise to the occasion and make the nation proud.
The 2024 Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations is expected to feature some of the best teams across the continent, with the winner securing a spot in the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup.
