Traditional Authority (T/A) Amidu of Balaka District has died at Zomba Central Hospital, where she had been receiving treatment since last week. Her passing marks a significant loss for the community and district, as she was a trailblazer in leadership and a dedicated advocate for women’s rights.
Balaka District Commissioner, Tamanya Harrawa, paid tribute to the late T/A Amidu, describing her as a patriotic leader and a unique presence within the district council. She held the distinction of being the only female full traditional authority in Balaka, a role she embraced with determination and commitment to her people.
“Her leadership was a beacon of hope for many, particularly for women,” said Harrawa. “She will be remembered for her tireless efforts in advancing women’s rights and promoting equality within our communities. Her strength and dedication were inspiring to all who knew her.”
Further details regarding burial arrangements are yet to be announced as the family and community prepare to honor her legacy.
