In a shocking turn of events, Homeland Security Minister Kenneth Zikhale Ng’oma’s attempt to introduce Ralph Mhone as the ruling Malawi Congress Party’s (MCP) parliamentary candidate for Nkhata-bay Central constituency ended in chaos.

The constituents openly rejected Mhone, citing his past failures and instead endorsed prominent businessman Ian Changa Kaumda as their preferred candidate.

The embarrassing incident occurred during Zikhale’s whistle-stop tour, where he aimed to encourage people to register with the Malawi Electoral Commission ahead of next year’s general elections.

However, the event took an ugly turn when angry constituents booed Zikhale and his team, forcing them to leave without addressing the crowd.

One constituent, Alfack Mtondo from Msumba, bluntly stated, “We’ve already given that Mhone a chance, but he failed us miserably. Now it’s time for ‘Changa-K’ – even if it means voting for him as an independent candidate!”.

The incident has left the MCP red-faced, highlighting the growing discontent among constituents with the party’s candidate selection process.

As the country gears up for next year’s elections, this development is likely to have significant implications for the MCP’s prospects in Nkhata-bay district and the region as a whole .
