Chakwera orders police to arrest those inciting violence

President Lazarus Chakwera has instructed the police to arrest and prosecute individuals inciting violence and causing harm to others.

The President emphasized that such behavior has no place in a democratic society and that the law must be upheld.

Chakwera’s statement comes after former presidents Bakili Muluzi, Joyce Banda, and Peter Mutharika criticized his handling of the country’s challenges, including the forex, hunger, and fuel crises.

The President urged the police to take decisive action against those promoting violence and to ensure that the rule of law is applied equally to all.

Chakwera emphasized that violence has no place in a democratic society.

He added that government will allocate K341 billion to support 5.7 million people affected by hunger.

However, the country still faces a funding gap of K89 billion to fully address the issue. But Chakwera noted that the available funds will only be enough to support 4.5 million people, leaving 1.2 million without assistance.

He has appealed to other countries to provide additional support to help bridge the funding gap.

He confessed that he has visited nine countries in the past few months, with the stated goal of soliciting funds to alleviate hunger in Malawi.

While the President’s efforts to address hunger are commendable, many Malawians are concerned about the cost of these trips and the perceived lack of tangible results.

Some have taken to social media to express their dissatisfaction, with many calling for greater transparency and accountability.

Malawi has been struggling with hunger and undernutrition, particularly among children.
