President Lazarus Chakwera has said construction of a modern 2000 capacity Entrepreneurship Training and Incubation Center at Mzuzu University (Mzuni) is a development that aligns with government’s vision of developing the country into a self-reliant nation.
Addressing students at Mzuni, Chakwera said that it is high time institutions of higher learning had facilities that have capacity to fully prepare them to build stand-alone companies.
“This facility is befitting the university because we want such institutions to have enough facilities to groom students into successful entrepreneurs,” said Chakwera.
The project has been awarded to Project Consultant DEC Construction Company and the manager, Ellard Malonda said all is set for the construction and that the project will be completed within specified time.
“On our side, we are set to begin construction. We have already started working on the project and we are sure the project will run within the agreed time frame which is 18 months,” said Malonda.
Mzuzu University Project Coordinator, Winner Chawinga said the center once completed will help achieve the institution’s vision of being a center of excellence and learning.
“We plan to open it to the public for a broader impact so that community members around benefit from the facility’s equipment and expertise.
“As an institution we are already embarking on various innovations and for an example previously produced sanitizers during Covid-19 pandemic,” Chawinga said.
The four story building is expected to cover 3650 square meters and is funded by World Bank through Skills for a Vibrant Economy (SAVE) Scheme and will comprise a 500 seater lecture theater, 16 laboratories among others.
