The Ministry of Gender has issued a stern warning to parents who neglect their children and bar owners who allow underage girls into their establishments. This move comes in response to the alarming presence of underage girls in some drinking joints in Lilongwe.

According to Pauline Kaude, spokesperson for the Ministry of Gender, bar owners are prohibited from allowing children under the age of 17 on their premises, as stipulated in the Child Care Protection and Justice Act. Kaude emphasized that the ministry conducts regular night-time operations to identify and reintegrate underage girls back into their communities.

The warning serves as a reminder to parents and guardians to take responsibility for their children’s well-being and safety. The ministry’s efforts aim to protect vulnerable children from exploitation and harm.

Kaude’s statement underscores the government’s commitment to addressing the issue of underage drinking and child neglect. The ministry’s proactive approach involves collaborating with law enforcement agencies and community leaders to ensure that children are protected and supported.

As Malawi strives to create a safer and more supportive environment for its children, the Ministry of Gender’s warning serves as a timely reminder of the importance of prioritizing child welfare and safety.

In related news, concerns about underage drinking have been raised globally, with studies highlighting the need for effective strategies to prevent and reduce underage drinking.

The Malawi government’s efforts to address this issue demonstrate its commitment to protecting the well-being and safety of its children.
