Civil servants in Malawi are set to receive a significant salary boost.

After successful negotiations between the Government Negotiating Team (GNT) and the Civil Servants Trade Union (CSTU), a 20 percent salary increase has been agreed upon, effective April 1, 2025.

According to CSTU Secretary General Titha Gomani, the salary increase will have an average of 18 percent.

This development is a major victory for civil servants, who have been advocating for better compensation for their services.

But that’s not all – the agreement also includes a 50 percent increase in transport and special allowances, as well as a leave grant that will rise within the range of 10 to 40 percent.

These increases are expected to significantly improve the welfare of civil servants and their families.

The negotiations between the GNT and CSTU were a culmination of efforts to address the concerns of civil servants.

The agreement is a testament to the commitment of both parties to finding a mutually beneficial solution.

GNT Chairperson Charles Kalemba and CSTU Secretary General Titha Gomani have both confirmed the agreement, which is expected to be implemented from April 1, 2025.

This salary increase is a significant development for civil servants in Malawi, who have been facing challenges in making ends meet due to the rising cost of living.

The increase is expected to boost their morale and motivation, leading to improved productivity and service delivery.

The agreement has been welcomed by civil servants, who have been eagerly awaiting a salary increase.

The development is also expected to have a positive impact on the economy, as civil servants will have more disposable income to spend on goods and services.

The 20 percent salary increase for civil servants is a major breakthrough that is expected to have far-reaching benefits for the economy and the welfare of civil servants. As the implementation date approaches, civil servants are eagerly looking forward to enjoying the fruits of their labor.
