Chiweta-Uliwa stretch nightmare

The 30 kilometres stretch between Chiweta in Rumphi and Uliwa in Karonga continues to deteriorate.

Very dangerous gullies continue to develop on the road, with other areas which were better off previously now developing some potholes.

A drive through the stretch around 7:00 this morning shows that no maintainance is taking place, contrary to what the Roads Authority said over a month ago.

Roads Authority (RA) chief executive officer Engineer Ammiel Champiti told us on April 17 that SOS Construction company had been deployed for the Chiweta to Uliwa section.

Another contractor, he said, was working on the potholes for the Uliwa-Karonga boma section, estimating that the contract for both sections was around K1.2 billion.

However, the contractor for the Chiweta-Uliwa Section is parked just after Hara stage.
