Lilongwe, Malawi — Principal Resident Magistrate Benjamin Chulu has ordered that three men accused of killing five individuals in Area 25, Lilongwe, be remanded at Maula Prison for 30 days to allow police to complete investigations.
The suspects — Dyson Sinedi, Adam Tsoka, and Felix Magaleta — appeared in court on Wednesday, facing a total of five counts of murder. The charges relate to the brutal killings of Brian Thondoya, Anthony Banda, Peter Chalusa, Mussa Ntondo, and Promise Spider.
According to state prosecutor Dalireni Kalanguluka, the 30-day remand is necessary to give investigators sufficient time to finalize evidence gathering and prepare for trial. Kalanguluka emphasized the gravity of the offences and the need to prevent any interference with ongoing investigations.
The court heard that Tsoka and Magaleta are jointly accused of committing four of the murders, while Sinedi is charged in connection with one.
In his ruling, Magistrate Chulu concurred with the prosecution, stating that the nature of the allegations warranted continued detention of the accused persons for the safety of the public and the integrity of the investigation.
The three suspects were returned to Maula Prison under tight security. The case is expected to return to court once the remand period lapses or when the state is ready to proceed with full trial.
