Mayamiko Nkoloma Embraces MEC Appointment with Sense of National Duty

Information and Communication Technology (ICT) expert Mayamiko Nkoloma has expressed gratitude and a deep sense of national responsibility following his appointment as a commissioner for the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC).

Nkoloma, a telecommunications lecturer at the Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS) and founder of tech firm iMoSyS, described the appointment as more than just a personal achievement. Speaking to Nation Online, he said it represents a serious obligation to serve Malawians with integrity, impartiality, and dedication.

“As a commissioner, I am particularly mindful of the responsibility I carry towards the youth of this country—to demonstrate that we can rise to the occasion and deliver credible, transparent, and inclusive electoral processes that safeguard our democracy,” he said.

Nkoloma also extended his gratitude to President Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera for approving his nomination, and to former president Arthur Peter Mutharika and the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) for nominating him.

“I extend my heartfelt gratitude to His Excellency the President of the Republic of Malawi, Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera, for approving my nomination. I also wish to sincerely thank former president Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika and the Democratic Progressive Party for nominating me,” he added.

His appointment is effective from July 24, 2025, according to Secretary to the President and Cabinet, Colleen Zamba.
