MCP Aims for Over 60% Victory in Upcoming Elections

The Malawi Congress Party (MCP) says it is confident of securing a decisive victory in the September 16 general election, projecting a win with more than 50+1 percent of the total vote.

Speaking during the launch of the party’s manifesto in the Eastern Region, MCP campaign director Moses Kunkuyu—who also serves as the Minister of Information—said the confidence is based on the strong response President Lazarus Chakwera has received across the country during his campaign.

Kunkuyu highlighted that President Chakwera has directly engaged with more than 3.2 million registered voters in the Central Region, 800,000 in the North, 1.8 million in the South, and 1.2 million in the East during his campaign trail.

“These are not just random figures. These are registered voters that our leader has reached, listened to, and spoken with,” Kunkuyu said. “We believe this massive outreach translates into strong electoral support, and we estimate that we can secure about 60 percent of the vote.”

The MCP’s optimism comes as the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) confirmed that approximately 7.2 million people have registered to vote in the upcoming polls.

Kunkuyu said the party’s strategy has been people-centered, focusing on listening to citizens’ needs and showcasing MCP’s development agenda through its newly launched manifesto.

With less than two months to go before Malawians cast their ballots, MCP says it is ready and energized to deliver a resounding victory for President Chakwera.
