The Institute of Public Opinion and Research (IPOR) has released a new survey forecasting a clear lead for Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika in the upcoming September 2025 elections.
According to the findings, Professor Mutharika is poised to win the presidential race with a commanding 43 percent of the vote.
The Malawi Congress Party (MCP), which is currently in power, trails significantly with only 26 percent of the projected support.
Dr Dalitso Kabambe, another notable figure in the political arena, registers a distant third with just 5 percent.
This IPOR survey follows closely on the heels of a similar Afrobarometer poll, which also indicated that the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) candidate would emerge victorious.
The alignment of results between the IPOR and Afrobarometer surveys adds weight to the growing perception that Professor Mutharika remains a dominant force in Malawi’s political landscape.
IPOR is a well-respected organization based in the university town of Zomba, in southern Malawi.
It specializes in surveys, social science research, and provides advisory and consulting services to both public and private institutions.
The latest findings are expected to shape national discourse as the countdown to the 2025 general elections gains momentum.
Political analysts and stakeholders will likely scrutinize these figures as they plan campaign strategies and coalition arrangements.
The combination of Mutharika and his running mate, former Malawi Electoral Commission Chairperson Dr Jane Ansah, appears to be resonating with a substantial portion of the electorate.
As the nation prepares for what could be a turning point election, all eyes will now focus on how rival parties respond to this projected resurgence of the DPP.
