Kazembe Vows to Tackle Makanjira Road Neglect, Urges Voters to Choose Development Over Loyalty

By Suleman Chitera

Mangochi-Makanjira Member of Parliament, Ismael Kazembe, has lashed out at what he calls a legacy of misplaced priorities that has left the area lagging behind in development—especially the long-neglected Makanjira Road.

Speaking on Monday at Makanjira Teachers Training College after submitting his nomination papers to the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC), the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) legislator stressed that the road can only be completed if the area elects a leader who genuinely cares about the community, not one who simply seeks political gain.

“This road remains in poor shape because past MPs have aligned themselves with the ruling government at the expense of their own people. They clap hands for everything instead of standing up and fighting for better infrastructure for their constituency,” Kazembe said.

He urged constituents to give him another mandate in the upcoming September 16 elections, pledging to prioritize tangible development in an area he described as one of the most marginalized in Mangochi District.

Kazembe’s remarks come as pressure mounts for real progress in one of Malawi’s most underserved constituencies.
