Barely a day after Sese Ward councilor for Lilongwe City Ngwenya constituency Isaiah Emmanuel Sunganimoyo criticized the Malawi Congress Party’s (MCP) excessive spending on handouts, unknown people suspected to be MCP, have taken the drastic measure of removing all of his posters across the constituency.
Sunganimoyo, a Malawi Congress Party (MCP) staunch supporter, born with MCP blood at first thought to stand as an independent presidential candidate to challenge President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera in a battle for central region to end years of MCP dominance in the region.
Some reputable chiefs from the region after noting that Sunganimoyo will be a threat to the MCP and President Chakwera’s second term bid to run for presidency to 2030, they sat down with him advising not to stand as this will be dividing votes which could have gone to President Chakwera in the region.
Sunganimoyo has been writing letters seeking an audience with President Chakwera on the basis that he was being deceived by those surrounding him that everything in Malawi was good while things on the ground are bad, he was not accorded space to meet him.
He at one time wrote a letter to President Chakwera to personally requesting from him an assistance of K500,000 to run his vocational school training centre in Lilongwe, but he received no response from President Chakwera making him doubt that his letter did not reach him.
The candidate was surprised to receive a response from the Secretary to the President and Cabinet (SPC) Ms. Colleen Zamba who told him that President Chakwera does not have a loan revolving fund basket to be giving out to everyone for free.
President Chakwera has been inviting various groups of people to State houses to dine with him and in the end, go home with K50,000s each as transport reimbursement while the state house hired lorries and buses to be ferrying the people.
There has been no single day, President Chakwera took time to invite Sunganimoyo to the state house to either be one of the invited guests to pocket K50,000s or honor his request to give him K500,000 to help him run his business.
Sunganimoyo was declared enemy number one of the MCP with some members of the party planning to kill him and this was evidenced at the Party’s Regional Office at Area 3 in Lilongwe, where he escaped death only thanking God in Heaven for rescuing him.
Speaking after his posters were removed by suspected MCP members, Sunganimoyo said he is undeterred and has directed his team to shift gears and engage voters directly by embarking on door-to-door campaign to distribute his manifesto.
Sunganimoyo said he is targeting 2000 voters that registered in the first phase saying the grassroots approach will ensure that his message reaches the people directly as many residents will be reading his manifesto in their respective houses.
“I know, they are trying to silence dissent, I am not afraid of dying in their hands, I was expelled from MCP but I am sill MCP by birth,” he said.
