Blantyre, Malawi – The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has strongly condemned the behavior of some of its members who are accused of abusing the party’s name for misconduct and unlawful activities.
According to a statement signed by DPP Secretary General Peter Mukhitho, certain individuals have been using the party’s identity to intimidate employees at the Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC), interfere with court proceedings, register vehicle number plates under the initials ADADI, and even grab business spaces at bus depots and markets.
Mukhitho described these actions as unacceptable, stressing that such behavior was one of the key reasons why the party lost power in 2020. He reminded DPP supporters that former President Arthur Peter Mutharika is a symbol of peace and unity, urging members to promote these values at all times.
“The DPP must stand for peace, respect, and the rule of law. Members should celebrate the good within the party and abide by the laws of the country,” said Mukhitho.
The DPP leadership has therefore appealed to all its members across Malawi to conduct themselves responsibly, avoid tarnishing the party’s image, and focus on rebuilding public trust ahead of future political contests.
Why This Matters
The DPP is one of Malawi’s major political parties and a key player in shaping the country’s governance.
Misconduct by party members not only damages the party’s reputation but also risks alienating voters.
With 2025 elections already setting the political tone, discipline and unity remain crucial for the party’s survival and comeback strategy.
