Senior officials of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) have removed Peterson Nyahoda from his position as the party’s Governor for the Chiromo area in Nsanje District following allegations of political misconduct and double dealings.

The decision was confirmed by Charlos James, the DPP’s Director of Recruitment in Chiromo, who said the move came after it was discovered that Nyahoda had been secretly working with Bilal Karim, an independent parliamentary candidate who contested in the recent elections.

“It is true that today, members of the DPP District Committee here in Chiromo, during our meeting, agreed to remove Peterson Nyahoda from his position as Governor. We made this decision after learning that he has been secretly working with Bilal Karim, who contested as an independent parliamentary candidate, a move that contributed to the party’s poor performance in the parliamentary elections,” said James.

The DPP, which remains one of Malawi’s main political forces, is reportedly reviewing its internal structures to strengthen grassroots support and promote loyalty within the party ranks ahead of the 2025 general elections.

Will Mumba influence the Chakwera’s clueless and directionless leadership style?

Meanwhile, Ndazi Napwiri has been appointed as the acting Governor for the Chiromo area until the party holds fresh internal elections. Party insiders say Napwiri’s appointment aims to restore discipline and unity among DPP members in the region.

As of press time, Peterson Nyahoda was not available for comment on his removal.
