A leader’s gratitude: President Mutharika bids farewell to Mangochi

By Burnett Munthali

President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika on Tuesday departed from Mangochi for Lilongwe, where he is scheduled to open a session of Parliament and attend a series of official engagements.

The President, accompanied by First Lady Gertrude Mutharika, left his private residence, Page House, and made a brief stop at the Mangochi Main Roundabout.

There, they greeted residents and bid them farewell before continuing their journey.

Thousands of people lined the streets to see the President off, joined by party and government officials as well as traditional leaders from the area.

In his remarks, President Mutharika expressed heartfelt gratitude to the people of Mangochi for their overwhelming support during the recent elections, saying their votes reflected their love and confidence in his leadership.

“I just wanted to bid you farewell on my way to Lilongwe, where I will attend to several official duties,” said Mutharika.

“I will be coming here often because this is where my home is,” he added.

Addressing concerns about food security, the President assured citizens in Mangochi and across the nation that his DPP-led government has already procured maize for distribution, fulfilling one of his key campaign promises.

Mutharika’s visit to Mangochi was marked by enthusiasm and excitement, with large crowds gathering to welcome him and listen to his message.

The President’s commitment to food security is in line with his administration’s efforts to promote agricultural development and reduce poverty in Malawi.

His government has implemented various initiatives to improve agricultural productivity and support farmers, including investments in agricultural infrastructure and support for modern farming techniques.

Mutharika’s assurance on food security has been welcomed by Malawians, who have been grappling with food shortages and economic challenges.

The President’s upcoming engagements in Lilongwe are expected to focus on key national issues, including economic development and governance.

As Mutharika continues his official duties, his leadership and vision for Malawi’s future remain a topic of interest and discussion among citizens and stakeholders.
