The Malawi Police Service (MPS) on Monday rearrested 11 suspects that appeared before the Chief Resident Magistrate court in Lilongwe and granted them bail for a series of violent attack on innocent people in Lilongwe and surrounding areas.

On 3rd November, 2025 the police in Lilongwe made the latest arrest of two people Laston Malizani (38) and Felix Makenja (28) joining the previously arrested 15 suspects including the suspected ring leader Bruno Munlo Makina (37).

The police say 15 suspects have already appeared before court answering to various charges and with the two arrested, the total is now 17 saying all 17 suspects are currently in police custody pending continued court appearance.

“The MPS reaffirms its commitment to ensuring all perpetrators of violent crime are brought to justice,” reads the Police’s statement.

MCP Spokesperson Dr. Jessie Kabwila has accused the police of arresting and re- arresting the suspects after the court granting them bail describing this as human rights abuses being committed by the DPP led government.

Dr. Kabwila has appealed to Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in the country to join her in condemning the DPP government for abusing the rights of the suspects expressing her deep concern over the Police actions of re-arresting the suspects to answer other charges.

A concerned citizen of Malawi Mrs. Elizabeth Kaliza Banda, has accused Dr. Jessie Kabwila for coming out in the open supporting terrorism which was the order of the day by MCP thugs advising her to keep quiet.

Kaliza Banda has reminded Dr. Kabwila that MCP already disassociated the party from the thugs alleging that that they were DPP members advising Dr. Kabwila to let the DPP as the owners of the thugs to be going to court other than she going to the court.

She said even President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera spoke nothing of MCP thugs saying this is speaking for itself that the thugs were not members of the MCP and as such, the MCP must not be involved in criminal activities of the thugs.

“Dr. Kabwila, you are a woman of high profile, sit down and watch the drama from the terraces and do not let your legacy to be destroyed for supporting MCP thuggish activities,” said Kaliza.

She has finally appealed to Former President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera to address MCP members on whether it is true according to reports in circulation that MCP was supporting terrorism by the party’s thugs.
