First Lady says having one objective demands reconciliation and tolerance

First Lady Madam Getrude Mutharika, says having one objective demands reconciliation and tolerance saying this is even happening in the church urging women in Malawi to work together with one heart for the country to develop.

Madam Mutharika said women can do big if they work together quoting the Holy Bible Psalms 133;1 observing that oneness cannot develop a group but collective responsibilities expressing optimistic that women will continue working together through “ZOKONDA AMAYI Programme on MBC radio.”

She said for 5 years, she missed all women in Malawi but she was with them as she was following the phone in programme –Zokonda amayi thanking Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) management for continuing to run the programme for over 40 years in Malawi.

Speaking at the Zokonda Amayi Macheza 2025 in Lilongwe on Saturday evening, Madam Mutharika said MBC has encouraged women from various districts across the country to work as one group including providing charity work.

Madam Mutharika noted with a great pride that it is not easy for women to be in one group for over 10 years, but MBC has made it possible that every year these women have to meet at one gathering to share their experiences.

She thanked women themselves for being together for over 10 years in one group urging them to continue this for others that are working alone to realize that there’s is potential in working as a group because this promote oneness.

‘We have to clap hands for ourselves for being in one group for over 10 years without divided as divided we cannot meet our objectives of working together,” said Madam Mutharika.

She encouraged MBC to continue running the programme for more women to join in the programme and at the same time caring for their families saying as they are sending greetings to their loved ones on MBC radio 0ne, they should send the first greetings to their husbands- the ones that are making them sweet.

Speaking earlier, Minister of Gender, Children, Disability and Social Welfare Hon. Mary Thom Navicha thanked Madam Getrude Mutharika that after missing for 5 years out of government, this time after bouncing back into government she has decided to come and be with the women in one group.

Navicha assured women across the country that good things are coming saying President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika has the welfare of women at heart, she has appointed Minister of Agriculture, Minister of Health, Minister of Energy and Minister of Gender, all are women
