Former Secretary to the President and Cabinet (SPC) Colleen Zamba, has spent a night at Kanengo Police station in Lilongwe after she was intercepted at Kamuzu International Airport (KIA) in Lilongwe when he was expected to board a plane to take her to Switzerland for a graduation ceremony of his son.
The arrests of Zamba is speaking for itself that many in the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) senior members are being targeted for arrests soon after Parliament rises to answer various charges they committed while they were in government.
Many former ministers in President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera’s cabinet, friends, and relatives have been turned into millionaires over a night enriching themselves at the expense of the poor citizens who many have died with hunger,
Zamba’s Lawyer Silvester Ayuba James confirmed the arrests of Zamba and she is expected to appear in court in Lilongwe to be formally charged for the offence she has committed saying the police took her to Area 30 for questioning on Wednesday.
The Daily Times front- page in the week reported that the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) claimed that at least 19 warrant of Arrests have been used to some senior members of the party which some individuals in the MCP have described this as political witch- hunting.
But, a Malawi Congress Party (MCP) diehard of Mvera in Dowa district Mr. Rodgers Kamphangala, has dismissed claims of political witch- hunting by the DPP led government on the party’s senior members saying they deserve to be arrested and prosecuted.
Kamphangala said there is no way the government which looks after the welfare of its citizens can procure fertilizer in a butchery and pharmacy in Europe while countries surrounding Malawi have large stocks of the commodity.
He said President Chakwera himself made 80 international trips to countries around the globe while the citizens at home have no food to eat with other Malawians eating wild bushes as food for their survivals, yet some people were keeping millions and millions of Kwachas stolen money from government coffers in their houses for mansions in town.
The MCP diehard said it is heart-breaking to note that the country’s debts have reached K28 trillion in 2025 from K4.1 trillion left by the DPP and Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika in June, 2020 questioning the whereabouts of the K24 trillion borrowed by the MCP alone in their 5 years stay in government.
“There is no tangible development project to show on the ground that MCP has done this and that in 5 years, China and Japanese Aid is what is building Lilongwe city roads,” said Kamphangala.
He has appealed to all MCP youth not to hold demonstrations against the arrests of its senior members of the party claiming that they have stolen a lot from Malawians and they deserve to be arrested, prosecutions and serving jail terms.
