Mzimba Luwerezi Member of Parliament, Sam Chirwa, has advised Malawian youths to support leaders who prioritize their welfare and refrain from exploiting them for political gain
Chirwa’s statement comes amidst concerns about the growing number of youths being used for political purposes, such as erecting flags, dancing at rallies, and destabilizing peace.
The remarks were in response to criticism from some quarters of the UTM Party, who accused him of supporting the new Labour Minister, Vitumbiko Mumba, during President Lazarus Chakwera’s rally.
“Your Excellency, Sir! Let me thank you for appointing this youngman (Vitumbiko Mumba) as new Labour Minister. Without considering political party affiliations we are going to give him all the necessary support,” said Chirwa.
In an interview on Sunday Chirwa’s remarks conquered with another influential Mzuzu City based UTM member, Shaggy Mlanga clarifying that the support for Mumba is based on the minister’s potential to help youths secure employment, regardless of political affiliation.
“I commended Vitumbiko Mumba on his appointment as the new Labour Minister, replacing Agnes NyaLonje, a fellow UTM member and young Northerner. We believe that with his leadership and influence, he will play a crucial role in helping the youth of Malawi secure employment opportunities,” said Mlanga.
Last month, after the UTM national convention in Mzuzu the party’s Spokesperson Felix Njawala emphasized that any collaboration with MCP leaders is against the party’s wishes and must be done in an individual capacity.
The statement highlighted the existing tensions between the UTM and MCP parties, underscoring the complexities of party politics and alliances.
