A proud concerned citizen of Malawi, a prominent businessman and a politician serving as Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Vice President for the Centre Hon. Alfred Gangata, has filed a notice to hold a peaceful demonstration in Lilongwe on Friday, 4th July, 2025.

In the notice delivered to Lilongwe District Commissioner Dr. Lawford Palani dated 30th June, 2025 Gangata has made it clear that the demonstration is being organized in response to increasing concerns about acts of violence and intimidations that have in recent times, undermine the rights of citizens to hold peaceful demonstrations within Lilongwe.

Gangata said as a concerned citizen from Dedza-Malawi, he finds it deeply troubling that certain groups have resorted to using force and threats to silence others claiming that this trend must be confronted with peace, prayer, and unity.

He has assured the authorities that the demonstration will be peaceful, law-abiding and respectful with a strong message to Stand against violence and to affirm every Malawian’s constitutional right to peaceful protest and expression saying Malawians have a moral and civic duty to protect these democratic values.

“We are prepared to work closely with law enforcement agencies and your office to ensure that the demonstration is conducted in a peaceful and orderly manner,” reads Gangata’s notice on the wall.

And in a related news development, concerned citizens in Mzuzu will on Friday, 4th July, 2025 hold “Kuthana ndi azikwanje” Demonstrations from Katoto ground with a strong message that Enough is Enough.

The Mzuzu demonstrators will march from Katoto ground to where the panga wielding thugs are staying dubbed “Door-to-door” hunting of the attackers so that they finish them with their pangas and when going each demonstrator is being encouraged to carry a stone in his hand.

In a communication, the demonstrators will not deliver a petition to the District Commissioner as the case with all other previous demonstrations saying this demonstration is special that the demonstrators will be going to the respective houses of the suspected thugs to arrest them.

The concerned citizens in Mzuzu have warned the police not to interfere with this demonstration on the claims that they have failed to protect the citizens in Lilongwe and time is now for the citizens to protect themselves from the attackers.

“Police, leave the people alone to provide judgement on Friday, 4th July, 2025,” reads the message in part.

A Malawi Congress Party (MCP) diehard of Mvera in Dowa district Mr. Rodgers Kamphangala, has praised concerned citizens for their decisions reached of going door to door arresting suspected panga wielding thugs which the police and MDF have failed.

Kamphangala said this is a good initiative, appealing to people in Lilongwe, Blantyre, Zomba and Mangochi to mobilize themselves to arrest the suspected thugs claiming that the MCP has been disassociating itself from claims that these thugs are MCP youth.

He has appealed to police in Mzuzu not to provoke the citizens but to live them do what is right for the country that in 1994 Malawians made a declaration that never again shall their country go back to a one-party state and dictatorship.
