A concerned citizen of Malawi Mrs. Elizabeth Kaliza Banda, has accused the Shire Times online news magazine for its story published that the Malawi Police Service (MPS) is planning to arrest former President and MCP leader Dr. Lazarus Chakwera in connection with the K59 billion stolen from Greenbelt Authority.
The Shire Times in its report warned Malawians that arresting President Chakwera will not heal the country but rather, it will break it claiming that Chakwera is not just an ordinary leader, he is a global leader.
The online magazine said arresting Chakwera risks the country to be triggered into political instability on the claims that Chakwera is the former Head of State and the political leader of millions of Malawians aligned to the Malawi Congress Party (MCP).
Kaliza said truth to be told, President Chakwera did not enter into government to implement his HI- 5 Agenda but to steal and become rich observing that President Chakwera was quiet after so many calls going to him to reshuffle his cabinet.
She said President Chakwera will be arrested by the law and not any individual person reminding Shire Times that former President Dr. Bakili Muluzi was arrested on allegations that he misappropriated LK1.7 billion, the case has been in court for 14 years without tangible evidence.
The citizen said President Chakwera is not above the law not to be arrested dismissing claims made by Shire Times that arresting Chakwera will trigger the country into political instability saying this did not happen with the UDF leader Dr. Bakili Muluzi.
She said President Chakwera will be the second president in Malawi to be arrested and prosecuted in a court of law and will prove himself in court whether guilty or not saying K59 billion stolen at Greenbelt Authority, he is part of the scam.
“From Greenbelt Authority to Salima Sugar Company, and NEEF, President Chakwera is in one way or another linked to the scams and he cannot run away from it hence he need to be arrested and enter prosecutions for playing around with taxes from poor people who for 5 years have been eating wild bushes (chitedze) as food for their survivals” said Kaliza.
She has appealed to the law enforcers to continue arresting MCP officials without fear or favor and let them be brought to courts to hear their charges observing that the economy of Malawi has collapsed because of their thieving in government.
Kaliza has rubbished statements that DPP politicians stole billions in government challenging the MCP and President Chakwera that they had six good years of prosecuting DPP thieves in government why not even one, is serving a prison sentence for the alleged theft?
She has finally advised the Malawi Police Service (MPS) to thoroughly investigate the suspects before arresting them saying it is the wish of Malawians to see to it that those who destroyed the country have been arrested, their property forfeited and offered for sale for the money recovered to address increasing taxes Malawians are going through each and every passing day.
