The Alliance for Democracy (AFORD) has condemned the brutal attack on its President Enoch Chihana in Kasungu in the strongest terms possible, demanding that the Malawi Police Service takes immediate and decisive action to investigate the attack, bring to book the perpetrators, and ensure that Chihana and all citizens can exercise their democratic rights without fear or harassment.
The AFORD says it is annoyed, horrified and deeply troubled by the attack on its President Chihana’s convoy in Kasungu on Monday, 1st September, 2025 saying a car with number plate KU 2C driven by two men clad in MCP regalia, joined the convoy with malicious intent, putting the life of Chihana at risk.

The party says as Malawians are approaching the 16th September election, it is evident that MCP is willing to go to any lengths to silence dissenting views, to crush opposition assuring the MCP that they will not be dettered from their quest for a just, fair and free Malawi.

Writing in a statement dated 1st September, 2025 signed by its national Publicity Secretary Annie Amatullah Maluwa, the AFORD has warned the MCP that its violence will not silence them, their intimidation will not deter them saying the voice of the people of Malawi and their cries will rise above their desperation.
The AFORD has urged Malawians to stand for justice, stand for democracy as they are building a good future for their country assuring the MCP and Malawians that the battle for a better Malawi is continuing observing that the attack on Chihana is a desperate attempt to silence the voice of democracy.
“We will not be swayed, we will not be silenced, and we will stand tall, strong and united,” reads the statement in part.
Limpopo FM online radio station has thanked people of where Chihana’s convoy was attacked in Kasungu for mobilizing one another to support and rescue AFORD President Enock Chihana appealing to all other Malawians elsewhere to emulate the example set.
The Radio’s Nkhanga zaona producer Comrade Ntanyiwa, has assured Malawians that its reporters are on the ground to establish the identities of the attackers and will forward their names to police even though they cannot arrest and prosecute them.
Comrade Ntanyiwa has prayed that the incoming government that will be elected on the 16th September, 2025 will do the job of arresting and prosecuting these MCP thugs who are doing everything possible to eliminate the lives of all opposition leaders for President Chakwera to remain alone.
