The convoy of Alliance for Democracy (AFORD) President Enoch Kamzingeni Chihana came under a horrific attack by thugs in Kasungu on Sunday evening.
According to reports, two men dressed in Malawi Congress Party (MCP) attire, driving a vehicle with registration number KU 2 C, suddenly joined the convoy and nearly collided with Chihana’s car.
The situation could have ended tragically had it not been for the swift intervention of Chihana’s security personnel, who managed to shield the AFORD leader from harm.
Eyewitnesses say members of the local village also rushed to the rescue of the convoy after realizing that Chihana and his team were under a brutal and coordinated attack.
Upon further inspection, it was discovered that the attackers’ vehicle contained dangerous weapons, including panga knives and stones.
Chihana was in Kasungu earlier in the day conducting whistle-stop rallies as part of his political campaign activities.
According to sources, the matter has since been reported to Kasungu Police for investigation.
Authorities are yet to release an official statement regarding the attack, and the political undertones surrounding the incident remain a cause of concern.
Conclusion
The violent attack on Enoch Chihana’s convoy highlights the growing risks faced by political leaders ahead of the upcoming elections.
Such acts of intimidation threaten Malawi’s democratic process, and it remains to be seen whether law enforcement will act decisively to ensure safety, justice, and accountability for all parties involved.
