Malawi Freedom Network Malawi (pictured above) and Mozambique were devastated by the Cyclone Freddy, which lasted at least 36 days and made landfall twice in Mozambique.
More than 1,000 people have died from Cyclone Freddy that rocked Malawi.
Malawi President, Lazarus Chakwera gave the update on Wednesday as the country recovers from one of the deadliest storms to hit the continent in the last two decades.
“This devastating climate-change event has killed over 1,000 people, displaced over half a million, and affected over two million through the washing away of homes, roads, bridges, crops, markets, schools, clothes, businesses, and power lines,” said Chakwera.
Freddy struck Mozambique and Malawi earlier in March for the second time in a month, destroying scores of homes.
Seventy-six deaths were recorded in neighboring Mozambique, where more than 33,000 houses were destroyed.
