Kasungu, Malawi – Alliance for Democracy (AFORD) President Enoch Chihana has described education as the architect of humanity’s future, commending the Blue Alliance led by Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika for its bold decision to scrap school and examination fees in Malawi.
Speaking during whistle-stop rallies at Kasalika and Four Ways in the area of Senior Traditional Authority Kasalika, Chihana said the move will make education accessible to every child, regardless of their economic background.
“Education is the foundation upon which societies are built and thrive. It enables development and has long been regarded as a catalyst of progress for individuals, communities, and economies,” said Chihana.
Focus on Quality Education and Good Governance
Chihana emphasized that the objective of AFORD and its alliance partners is not only to make education free but also to ensure quality and accountability in the sector. He highlighted that strong governance structures are critical to uplifting education standards in Malawi.

Healthcare Transformation Agenda
Turning to health development, Chihana announced that the healthcare system will undergo a transformative evolution, driven by a robust government strategy aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
He revealed that the K5 billion constituency fund will be a key instrument in financing this transformation, targeting modern health facilities, improved service delivery, and better access to healthcare for Malawians in rural and urban areas.

The AFORD leader said that investing in education and healthcare remains central to Malawi’s sustainable development. He called on Malawians to support leadership that prioritises human capital development, good governance, and accountability.
