After almost his whole five-year stint as the country’s justice minister, Titus Mvalo has decided to return home at Emfeni in Mzimba Luwerezi constituency to run for the Parliamentary office in next year’s General election.
His sudden appearance in Ntchyawaka and Majighakwenda villages has left people wondering, introducing himself as a son of the area, considering Mzimba Luwerezi being one of the least developed areas in the country.
Despite its parliamentarian, Sam Chirwa’s, hard work, the area still struggles with poor road networks, inadequate schools, and healthcare facilities with limited medical supplies.
Oswald Mumba, a senior member of the Mabilabo Development Committee, expressed surprise at Mvalo’s return, describing him as a prodigal son only interested to use the constituents in enriching himself.
“What has he done for us all these years being a minister?” Mumba asked. “Emfeni relies solely on the Constituency Development Fund (CDF), which shows that only Sam Chirwa is the only one working for the area, while we have a full minister from here.”
What has mostly annoyed the people of Emfeni is Mvalo’s involvement in the voter registration campaign, where he’s been distributing packets of Soya pieces and K1,000 to those who have registered.
“After all these years, the minister only comes to distribute Soya pieces and K1,000, thinking that’s enough to buy our votes,” queried Limbani Hara, a member of the Village Development Committee. “Just wait and see.”
Meanwhile, president Lazarus Chakwera is expected to visit Luwerezi where he will conduct a development rally aimed to introduce the two prodigal sons; Titus Mvalo or Humphreys Mvula as MCP Parliamentary aspirants on Malawi Congress Party ticket.
