Today was a memorable day for Holy Guardian Angels, a newly established mphakati under Sts. Peter and Paul Parish (Nathenje), which falls under the Likuni Deanery of the Lilongwe Archdiocese.

The group organized a fundraising function, which was held at the Nathenje Rural Training Residential Centre.

The event attracted a large number of people from the Nathenje area.

Some of the notable attendees included Group Village Headman Nathenje, Shadow Councillor for DPP Hon. Mkaka, and representatives from neighboring mphakatis, among others.https://malawifreedomnetwork.com/2025/08/17/malawis-honorary-consul-to-israel-under-spotlight-after-top-award-nomination/

Speaking to this reporter, the Chairperson of the Fundraising Committee explained that the main objective of the function was to raise funds to ensure that the mphakati can be self-reliant in running its activities.

He continued to say that the mphakati faces numerous challenges and that, in the near future, they plan to hold a function to bless the mphakati.

He emphasized that having sufficient resources is essential to making this upcoming function a success.

In his comments, Mr. Malaki Kambani Banda, Chairperson of Holy Guardian Angels, reiterated that the mphakati faces several challenges, and that fundraising is a key solution to overcome these problems.

He cited various difficulties the mphakati is currently experiencing, highlighting the importance of community support.

Another member, Mrs. Chakana, concurred with the Chairperson and other members, saying that the fundraising will assist in supporting the mphakati’s activities.

She added that their dreams have now begun to be realized.

Commenting on the event, another attendee said that he was happy to be invited and described the function as good and encouraging.

Holy Guardian Angels is the sixth mphakati under Nathenje Parish Centre.

The parish currently has eighty-four mphakatis, six centres, two priests, Franciscan Sisters, and four gulupas.
