UTM presidential aspirants vow loyalty ahead of elective convention

In a show of unity, UTM presidential aspirants have pledged their loyalty to the party, promising not to defect or establish separate political movements should they fail to secure the party’s presidential nomination at the upcoming elective convention. The convention, set for next week in Mzuzu, will see UTM delegates choosing the party’s presidential candidate for the 2025 general elections.

During a fundraising dinner in Blantyre, the four aspirants—Dalitso Kabambe, Matthews Mtumbuka, Patricia Kaliati, and Newton Kambala—each signed a formal commitment to support the candidate who emerges victorious. The pledge was overseen by UTM patron Noel Masangwi, who commended the candidates for their dedication and loyalty to the party.

Speaking on behalf of the aspirants, Patricia Kaliati emphasized the importance of unity as UTM approaches the crucial election season. “We are all here because we believe in UTM’s vision for Malawi. Regardless of who wins, we are committed to supporting the chosen candidate and working together to ensure the party’s success in the 2025 elections,” she said.

Dalitso Kabambe echoed these sentiments, emphasizing that the party’s strength lies in its collective goals rather than individual ambitions. “Our shared vision for a better Malawi is what brought us here, and it is what will keep us united even after this convention,” Kabambe remarked.

Noel Masangwi, who administered the pledges, expressed confidence in the candidates’ commitments, noting that such unity would strengthen UTM’s position in the run-up to the 2025 elections. “This commitment to loyalty and unity is a reflection of UTM’s strength and resilience. Our supporters can rest assured that, regardless of the outcome, we will move forward as one,” Masangwi said.

The fundraising dinner served not only as an opportunity for the aspirants to showcase their vision for UTM but also as a reminder of the party’s collective goals. Each candidate highlighted their plans to improve economic stability, address corruption, and enhance governance in Malawi, reinforcing the party’s broader agenda.

As the convention approaches, UTM members and supporters across the country are watching closely to see who will lead the party into the 2025 elections. The unity displayed by Kabambe, Mtumbuka, Kaliati, and Kambala signals a promising future for UTM as it positions itself as a formidable force in Malawian politics.
