MERA CAUTIONS ON ILLEGAL FUEL VENDING AND HOARDING

The Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA) says it has noted with concern increased illegal fuel vending and alleged fuel service stations’ aiding in this malpractice.

According to a statement from MERA Public Relations Officer, Chembezi Mhone, retail fuel service stations are being reminded that their licensing conditions do not permit hoarding of petroleum products, showing undue preference to, or discriminating against any person with regard to the provision of petroleum products or services.

The statement further says MERA alongside other agencies which are mandated to enforce the law remains vigilant to protect consumers against such practices hence MERA will intensify spot checks and ensure offenders are held accountable and regulatory sanctions will be applied
