Former President Dr Joyce Banda has described entrepreneurship as a key factor that can help transform the lives of women, particularly those operating in well-organised structures.
She was speaking at this year’s MBC Zokonda Amayi Macheza held at Sunbird Nkopola Lodge in Mangochi.
The former Head of State, who was invited as a guest of honour at the event observed that women face barriers at all levels of decision-making because of their dependence on men and most of the time this leaves them disadvantaged to challenge discrimination and domestic violence.
She said: “There is potential for women in the country to venture into the export-related business through forums such as the Zokonda Amayi Macheza structures.”
She, therefore, commended MBC for creating an enabling environment for women in the country to network and share ideas on how they can better their lives through Zokonda Amayi Macheza Programme.
In his remarks Director General for MBC, George Kasakula described the event as a success. His observation was echoed by Limbikani Kamlongera who represented MBC Board Chairperson, Reverend Vasco Kachipapa at the function.
