Minister for National Unity, Timothy Mtambo, who is also a member of the AIP Taskforce conducted surprise inspection visits to several fertiliser suppliers at Kanengo in Lilongwe.
The surprise visits sought to physically confirm the availability of the inputs in their warehouses.
The minister said food security is the benchmark for a peaceful society.
“A hungry people can never think of development and effectively keep law and order in a democratic nation,” said Mtambo.
The Minister said Chakwera’s promise of a successful AIP still stands.
Mtambo therefore, expressed great satisfaction with the pace and progress in the implementation of AIP in the growing season, especially the availability of fertilisers already within Malawi.
Minister of Agriculture, Sam Kawale and the AIP Taskforce Committee Chairperson, Richard Chimwendo Banda, who is also Minister for Youth and Sports were also in Liwonde to conduct the same exercise.
From every angle, reports indicate that the Chakwera Administration is fully set to begin distribution of the fertilisers and other inputs.
