Government says it will, soon make an update on the 6.8 Billion US Dollar grant, which was signed with Bridging Foundation, in November last year.
Gospel Kazako, Minister of Information, has made this revelation to MIJ Online, a month after government signed a multi-billion US dollar grant with the Foundation.
The agreement sparked debate in some section of society, as some questioned the legitimacy of the organization.
But, after the signing ceremony, government said the grant was aimed at funding development projects, including the Inkosi ya Makosi M’mbwelwa University, Construction of Twin Towers at Capital Hill, construction of a high tech bioscience and fertilizer manufacturing industrial part at Luanar, among others.
According to Kazako, Malawians will have to wait a bit longer before they witness the agreement materializing as government is in its final stages towards accessing the funds, hence saying Malawians will be updated, shortly.
“Very shortly we will be making a statement, certainly to update people on where we are. There are meetings going on, you must know that 6.8 Billion is not small money. So there are many other things that are supposed to be stitched up and then we start rolling” said Kazako.
Meanwhile, the government’s spokesperson hance since asked for patience from the citizenry on the issue, saying it will come to pass.
However, Wonderful Mkhutche, a good governance analyst, told us that the response by government on the issue shows that that authorities are still adamant to accept that they were scammed by the Foundation.
In his analysis, Mkhutche, cited the display of lack of evidence of legitimacy of Bridgin Foundation during the signing of the billion dollar deal.
