The noise is refusing to die in the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) as to who shall be the torch bearer for the party in the 2024 presidential polls.
The name Bright Msaka, party vice president for the Eastern Region has emerged as the clear front runner among other names a number of publications have mentioned so far.
It is no secret that Kondwani Nankhumwa and some of the party presidential hopefuls who are said to have already formed structures in preparation for the DPP convention which is likely to be held early in July 2023.
Ironically, three senior regional party officials from the North, Centre and South who spoke on condition of anonymity confided in this reporter that despite the noise on the ground, the former Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Bright Msaka is the most eligible candidate to lead the party.
“I can assure you that despite all the noise, we in the party knows very well that we have capable men to lead the party beyond 2023 after the national convention, and mind you real leaders do not impose themselves on the people,
“Without fear or favour I can assure you that Bright Msaka who is the parliamentarian for Machinga Likwenu, will succeed His Excellency Professor, Arthur Peter Mutharika as party and state president come 2025,” he said.
One of the regional party officials from the central region warned those aspiring to lead the party to trade carefully bearing in mind that interparty squabbles also derail development progress while also confirming that Msaka is likely to lead DPP in 2025.
“This country is in one way trailing behind because of the politics of pull him down, we are not in any way tolerant to others and try as much as possible to fight those we think are possible candidates to pull them down so that we look like favourites, honestly Msaka is the man for the job,
“He is gentle and his leadership style is very unique, and that is what has kept him in the party and as a cabinet minister since the time of late Bingu wa Mutharika, he has no bad record and he is wise,” he concluded.
And commenting about the issue on our Facebook page a contributor only known as Elliott Palanda called on all those aspiring for the presidency to express their interest at an appropriate time if democracy is to triumph.
“Let them express their presidential ambitions at the convention, that is where all interested people shall declare themselves their interests, and that is democracy, I just think that way right,” Palanda said
