I will not accept half-baked projects – Neno DC

Neno District Commissioner Hudson Kuphanga has cautioned Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) and Civil Society Organisations intending to implement various project in the district that he will not accept half-baked projects.

He was speaking Friday during a District Executive Committee (DEC)meeting where Elizabeth Glaser Paediatric Aids Foundation (EGPAF), Next Generation (NextGen) and Evangelical Association of Malawi (EAM) presented their various projects to be implemented in the district.

His comments comes on the heels of failure by Next Generation and EGPAF to mention the budget for the projects they want to implement in the district saying they are centrally controlled.

Kuphanga said when non state actors are coming with projects in the district, they should come out clearly on budget line and implementation plan so that that the council should determine the efforts they are putting in and know exactly how much is in their basket.

Director of Planning and Development for Neno (DPD) District Council, Charles Lomoni asked the NGOs and civil society organisations to take the issue seriously and provide the needed information because councils are asked how much money they get from CSOs.

He therefore asked EGPAF and NextGen to go back and look at the activities because they are budgeted for and inform the council their budget line for information sharing sake.

EGPAF will be implementing a project “Sustaining control of the HIV epidemic through efficient cause finding and quality care and treatment services in Malawi (Score 95)” from 2022-2027 while EAM will implement a Climate change adaptation and sustainable energy in Malawi.

NextGen will be implementing a National Reading program with funding from USAID targeting standard one and two learners with reading skills.

EAM Projects Officer Jones Chitheka said they have taken note of the concerns and will rectify them before they start implementing their project.
