Government impressed with implementation of EQUALS project in Mulanje

Deputy Minister of Education, Nancy Mdooko on Thursday visited Mulanje district to appreciate the progress of Equity with Quality Learning at Secondary schools (EQUALS) project which is being implemented in 13 education districts in Malawi.

Among the sites she visited were construction of laboratories at Chambe, Mulanje and Nansomba secondary schools.

The Deputy Minister said government’s interest is to fulfill most projects that are crucial to attain 2063 agenda whose enabler number five is human capital development which includes education and skills development centres.

“As ministry we are equally satisfied with the progress of the projects that are being carried out in the district. This is the reason government is working hard in the implementation of such developments so that no one is left behind as we are trying to make education conducive for the students,” she said.

Mdooko then urged surrounding communities to take care of the facilities that are being constructed in the community and avoid vandalism as one way of fostering development in their areas.

Francis Chagonapanja who is contractor for the projects said the construction work is progressing well since there is mutual understanding between all stakeholders involved including community.

A form four student at Nasomba secondary school, Isaac Musaya said the initiative will encourage students to take science subjects since most learners drop out of it because of inadequate resources for learning.

EQUALS project aims at improving quality of mathematics and science instruction in secondary schools and also increase access to secondary education in selected remote areas.
