The Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority says the Re-Farming Project which the authority is undertaking will help to address the problem of overcrowding in the FM Band.
Daudi Suleman, the Director General of MACRA, said the new FM band plan aims to make better use of the available spectrum and increase the number of participants in the industry.
Suleman said that the FM Re-farming project will introduce a unique method that allows national broadcasters to operate on a single frequency.
He added that by rearranging and optimizing the frequency bands, MACRA intends to reduce congestion, improve the quality of signals, and make the spectrum more efficient.
Haswel Solomon, the Director of Engineering for Zodiak and chairperson of the project’s task force, said the implementation of this pioneering initiative holds great promise for the future of the FM Band.
He added that offers numerous possibilities for a vibrant and inclusive broadcasting landscape.
The Re-Farming project started in December 2022 and is expected to end in January 2024
