Joseph Mwanamvekha, the Democratic Progressive Party’s (DPP) Vice President for the Southern Region, has dismissed as laughable recent allegations that he has resigned from the party. Mwanamvekha, a long-standing member and influential figure within the DPP, made his position clear in a statement released today, affirming his commitment to the party’s vision and mission.
In his statement, Mwanamvekha emphasized that he remains firm in his dedication to the DPP, refuting any claims of a resignation as “false and baseless.” He expressed disbelief over the rumors, stating, “I, Joseph Mathyola Mwanamvekha, Vice President for the Southern Region, categorically deny the malicious rumors circulating about my resignation. The allegations are entirely false as I have not resigned and have no intentions of doing so.”
Mwanamvekha further elaborated on his enduring relationship with the party’s President, Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika, whom he described not only as a leader but also as a mentor and father figure. He remarked that Mutharika’s guidance has been a cornerstone of his political journey, and he would never take any action that would disappoint him or jeopardize the party’s unity.
“Professor Mutharika is more than just a leader; he is a father to me. I am committed to the values he embodies and to advancing the party’s goals under his direction,” Mwanamvekha stated.
Mwanamvekha, who represents Chiradzulu-South in Parliament, also urged all DPP members to remain unified, working together to build a better future for the party and the country. “I encourage every member of our great party to disregard these baseless rumors and stay focused on our shared goals,” he said.
The statement comes at a time when rumors of infighting and factionalism have been swirling within the DPP. Mwanamvekha’s strong denial and call for unity aim to reassure supporters and refocus the party on its goals ahead of the next election. His message underlines the importance of cohesion as the party strives to maintain its relevance and leadership in Malawi’s political landscape.
