President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to combating hunger challenges exacerbated by the El Niño weather phenomenon, emphasizing that no family should go to bed without food. Speaking during a whistle-stop tour in Chiseka, the President highlighted measures his government has taken to ensure fairness and transparency in the distribution of relief maize to vulnerable households.

During his visit to Chiseka, President Chakwera stressed that the government had increased the number of targeted households for maize distribution in response to the growing hunger crisis. He acknowledged the urgency of the situation, noting that many families could not afford to wait longer for assistance.

“We have increased the number of targeted households because we do not want families to go to bed without food. We have also decided to start distributing the maize earlier than planned because many people cannot wait any longer,” the President explained.

President Chakwera emphasized that the relief distribution must be done fairly and transparently to ensure that no vulnerable household is left behind. He called on local leaders and citizens to work together to monitor the process, ensuring that it is equitable and that relief maize reaches those who need it the most.

“This is a time for us to come together as a nation and ensure that every Malawian who is struggling with hunger receives the help they need. We must ensure that the distribution is fair, transparent, and reaches all those in need,” Chakwera added.

In addition to addressing hunger, President Chakwera took the opportunity to encourage residents in Chiseka to register in large numbers during the ongoing voter registration exercise. He stressed the importance of citizen participation in the 2025 general elections, urging people to ensure that their voices are heard in shaping the country’s future.

“This is a critical time for every Malawian to be part of the democratic process. I urge you all to register to vote, so that you can play a part in electing leaders who will continue working for your welfare,” the President said.

President Chakwera’s visit to Chiseka highlights his administration’s ongoing efforts to address the dual challenges of hunger and climate-related crises. By prioritizing fairness in relief distribution and encouraging active citizen participation in the electoral process, the President is reinforcing his commitment to the welfare and future of all Malawians.

As the country continues to navigate the impacts of El Niño and other challenges, the government’s focus on inclusivity, transparency, and responsiveness remains a key part of its approach to improving the lives of its citizens.
