Thyolo, Malawi – The convoy escorting His Excellency Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika, former President of Malawi, made a dramatic passage through the scenic yet challenging Kamuzu View Hills as they journeyed to the Lower Shire for political engagements.

The Kamuzu View Hills, renowned for their steep and winding roads, served as a crucial point on the route to Nsanje and Chikwawa Districts. The convoy’s passage highlighted both the beauty and the infrastructural challenges of the region.

Speaking earlier in Thyolo before embarking on the journey, Professor Mutharika emphasized the importance of reconnecting with grassroots communities in the Lower Shire. He described the trip as a critical mission to mobilize support for the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) ahead of the 2025 general elections.

“The Lower Shire has immense potential that has been neglected for too long. We need to restore its glory and ensure development reaches every corner of this country,” Mutharika said.

The convoy successfully navigated the hilly terrain, which often poses difficulties for drivers due to its sharp bends and narrow paths. While the journey through Kamuzu View was without major incident, the road conditions underscored the need for better infrastructure in such critical areas.

Mutharika has consistently highlighted road infrastructure as a cornerstone of his development agenda, pointing out that better roads are essential for connecting rural areas to markets and services.

Upon reaching the Lower Shire, Mutharika is expected to hold rallies and meetings aimed at addressing key issues affecting the region. These include flooding, food insecurity, and stalled development projects. He has promised that a DPP government would prioritize comprehensive solutions to these challenges.

The journey through Kamuzu View Hills symbolizes Mutharika’s determination to overcome obstacles—both literal and political—as he works to win the trust and support of Malawians ahead of the elections.
