Mzuzu, Malawi – President Lazarus Chakwera has presided over the launch of the construction of the Entrepreneurs Training and Incubation Centre (ETIC) at Mzuzu University, a landmark project aimed at fostering entrepreneurship and innovation in Malawi.

The state-of-the-art facility, which comes with a budget of over K6 billion, will have the capacity to accommodate 430 students once completed. This initiative aligns with the government’s agenda to empower the youth and boost job creation through skills development and enterprise incubation.

Speaking during the ceremony, President Chakwera emphasized the importance of timely delivery of the project. “This center represents hope for young Malawians who dream of transforming their ideas into impactful businesses. I urge all stakeholders involved to ensure that the construction works are completed within the agreed timeframe,” he said.

The ETIC is expected to provide a conducive environment for training, mentorship, and the incubation of start-ups, bridging the gap between academia and industry. It will also host workshops, laboratories, and co-working spaces to support entrepreneurial ventures.

Mzuzu University’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor John Kalenga Saka, commended the government for its commitment to investing in education and youth development. “This center will not only benefit the students of Mzuzu University but will also serve as a hub for entrepreneurs across Malawi,” he stated.

The project comes shortly after President Chakwera commissioned a Fish Feed Mill, demonstrating his administration’s focus on diversifying the economy and equipping Malawians with the tools necessary for self-reliance.

As construction begins, the project has sparked optimism among students and the local community. Many view the ETIC as a game-changer that will address the country’s high unemployment rates by equipping young people with practical skills to succeed in the business world.

President Chakwera concluded his address by reaffirming his commitment to ensuring the successful implementation of initiatives designed to transform Malawi’s economic landscape, adding that the ETIC is a testament to his administration’s dedication to creating opportunities for the youth.

The construction is set to begin immediately, with expectations high that the ETIC will set a new standard for entrepreneurial training in the region.
