An explosive audio clip by Malawian activist Bon Kalindo, popularly known as “The DC,” has been circulating on social media since Saturday, December 21, 2024. In the clip, Kalindo fiercely criticizes President Lazarus Chakwera, accusing him of weak leadership and failure to defend Malawi’s territorial integrity concerning Lake Malawi’s boundaries with Tanzania.
Kalindo expressed shock and dismay, alleging that Chakwera has effectively given up Malawi’s original boundaries to Tanzania. “It is shocking to learn that the President has surrendered our lake’s boundaries to Tanzania, which is currently led by a female president,” he said. He further highlighted that all former Malawian presidents, including Kamuzu Banda, Bakili Muluzi, Bingu wa Mutharika, Joyce Banda, and Peter Mutharika, stood firm in protecting Malawi’s territorial rights.
“Even Joyce Banda, the first female president of Malawi, defended the lake boundaries with total commitment. How can Chakwera betray this legacy and sell part of the lake just because of fuel shortages?” Kalindo questioned.
Kalindo also condemned the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) for allegedly sponsoring chaos in Parliament on Friday, December 20, 2024. He accused the ruling party of sending thugs to disrupt proceedings and intimidate opposition Members of Parliament (MPs).
“These MCP-funded thugs caused chaos in the August House with the sole aim of assaulting opposition MPs,” Kalindo claimed. According to him, the youths were allowed into Parliament without proper security checks and disrupted proceedings while chanting party slogans such as “Boma ndi lomweli” (This is the government).
Kalindo criticized law enforcement officers for failing to act during the fracas, describing their inaction as a dereliction of duty. “Police officers stationed at Parliament did nothing while chaos unfolded. Parliament is supposed to be a secure space, but it has become a playground for MCP hooligans,” he said.
Turning his attention to the broader challenges facing Malawi, Kalindo lamented the worsening hunger crisis in districts such as Salima and Dowa, where people are reportedly starving. He accused the government of neglecting its citizens while focusing on political theatrics and intimidation.
“This government has failed the people. While Malawians are starving, the leadership is busy stealing, beating, and killing innocent people. This leadership must be voted out,” Kalindo declared.
In his audio, Kalindo described the current state of governance as a betrayal of the nation’s trust, arguing that the MCP’s nearly 30 years in opposition should have prepared them for better leadership. Instead, he said, “laws have gone into the hands of dogs,” and the country’s democracy is under threat.
Kalindo’s fiery remarks have sparked widespread discussion on social media, with some supporting his critique while others view it as overly provocative.
As of now, there has been no official response from the government or President Chakwera regarding Kalindo’s allegations. However, the audio has intensified public debate on critical national issues, including governance, territorial integrity, and political accountability.
Malawians continue to await clarity on the Lake Malawi boundary issue, as well as answers on the chaotic scenes in Parliament, amid growing concerns about the direction of the current administration.
