President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera has reassured Malawians of his government’s unwavering commitment to advancing the country’s economic growth, despite the challenging weather conditions currently affecting the nation. Speaking to a large crowd upon his arrival at Mangochi Boma, en route to Chikoko Bay State Lodge, the President underscored his administration’s determination to improve livelihoods and foster sustainable development.
“My administration remains committed to uplifting the lives of all Malawians through various development projects, which include enhancing food security, infrastructure development, and creating economic opportunities,” said Chakwera.
The President acknowledged the difficulties many Malawians are facing due to climate change’s adverse effects, including the ongoing food insecurity, but urged the citizens to remain hopeful. He emphasized that the government remains focused on improving the welfare of its people. “Let us not lose hope. You have a government that prioritizes the welfare of its citizens,” Chakwera stated.
In his address, the President assured the people of Mangochi that development would continue in the district, with projects aimed at meeting the community’s aspirations. Among the significant projects is the Makanjira Road development, for which funding has already been secured. Chakwera also thanked development partners for their continued support in driving these key projects forward.
In a call to the nation’s youth, President Chakwera urged young people to avoid engaging in political violence, which he said has no place in a democratic Malawi. He called for unity and peaceful coexistence among the country’s citizens to ensure the prosperity of the nation.
Minister of Local Government, Richard Chimwendo Banda, praised the President for his consistent efforts to unite the country, adding that such unity would contribute significantly to Malawi’s growth and stability.
Traditional Authority Mapira expressed gratitude to the government for its timely response to the food crisis, particularly through the Lean Season Food Insecurity Response Programme. The relief maize distribution is already underway in the district, and many vulnerable households have received essential food aid. The traditional leader highlighted that the response is a crucial lifeline for those facing food shortages due to the adverse weather conditions.
President Chakwera’s visit to Mangochi serves as a reminder of his administration’s ongoing efforts to address the immediate challenges Malawians face while ensuring long-term economic development. Despite the current difficulties, Chakwera’s government is committed to improving the lives of its citizens and laying the groundwork for a prosperous future for all.
