The Northern Region Football Association (NRFA) General Secretary, Masiya Nyasulu, has officially declared his bid for the chairperson position in the association’s upcoming elective general assembly. The election is set to take place on February 15, 2025, in Mzuzu.
Nyasulu will face stiff competition from the incumbent chairperson, Chauka Mwasinga, who has also confirmed his intention to seek another term.
The NRFA has announced that the nomination period will run from January 4 to January 14, 2025. A total of 28 delegates from seven districts in the Northern Region will cast their votes to determine the new leadership.
The association aims to ensure a transparent and fair process as it looks forward to electing a leader capable of advancing football development in the region.
Speaking during his announcement, Nyasulu emphasized his commitment to revitalizing football in the region.
“My focus will be on grassroots development, strengthening district leagues, and fostering partnerships that will bring more resources to the region. Football is a uniting factor, and with the right leadership, we can take the sport to greater heights,” he said.
Chauka Mwasinga, who has held the position for two terms, is campaigning on the foundation of his past achievements. Under his leadership, the NRFA secured sponsorship for regional leagues and expanded participation in youth programs.
“I am confident that my track record speaks for itself. My goal is to consolidate the gains we have made and ensure sustained growth for football in the Northern Region,” Mwasinga said.
The 28 voting delegates represent the seven districts in the region, each bringing the concerns and aspirations of their respective communities. The outcome of the election is expected to have a significant impact on the future of football development in the Northern Region.
As the election date draws closer, the contest between Masiya Nyasulu and Chauka Mwasinga promises to be a pivotal moment for football in the Northern Region. With both candidates presenting compelling visions, the delegates will play a crucial role in deciding the direction of the sport in the coming years.
